Even before Kennedy spent time in the hospital, Kennedy wanted to be a doctor. Having cancer made her more determined to reach this goal. Kennedy wants to help people like Dr. Sisler (her favorite) helps her.
Kennedy and her family received their Heroes Bag and Backpack during the first week of treatment when everything was a blur. There were no quick appointments. Kennedy spent hours waiting for blood test results. The iPad helped the time go quickly.
Outside of the hospital, the family enjoys meeting other childhood cancer families at Connor’s Heroes events. They loved the make-your-own-pizza at Mellow Mushroom, Family Fun Day at Hardywood Park Brewery, and, of course, the monthly Heroes Art Sessions.
Athena said, “The family events let Kennedy know she is not alone. Connor’s Heroes included her older brother Adam, which was so nice because he gave up his activities when we needed to focus on Kennedy.”
Kennedy started maintenance in January and is back in school.
