Alexis (Lexy)
Alexis (Lexy) was diagnosed with High-Risk AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) and underlying MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) in December 2012 – one month after her 17th birthday and being crowned Homecoming Princess at her high school. She underwent four rounds of chemotherapy and required a subsequent bone marrow transplant which sent her to the Pediatric ICU for over 40 days in multi-system organ failure. Beating horrible odds, she came home and is improving each day. In February, Lexy’s bone marrow biopsy showed she was 100% cancer-free. She continues to receive chemo for the MDS. Lexy missed the majority of her junior and senior years of high school due to her treatment but that didn’t stop her from her dream to go to college. She is now a student at CNU in Newport News.
